Secrets of Successful Shopping

   Posted by: yun    in Uncategorized

Like everything else in life, shopping benefits a lot from research. Fortunately, with the advent of internet, you don’t have to go to stores to get deals. Nor do you need to wait for store circularies to get in your mailbox. Go to the web site of your favorite store. Most stores have online versions of their weekly ads. Just type in your zip code, and the right ads will be retrieved for you. Most web sites, such as Macys.com, also give you the option to print discount shopping passes. Taking advantage of these online resources will save you a lot of time down the road.

A Little Chinese Scholar

   Posted by: yun    in Uncategorized

About a year ago, MM started to go to Chinese school with her sister. For a long time, she could only trace Chinese characters or write some while I held her hand. Recently, ever since XF taught her to writer her name in Chinese, she’s developed an interest in writing Chinese. She would write all by herself. Even if I offer to hold her hand, she would not let me. Can’t tell you how proud I am of this big milestone of hers.

Tangled Hair

   Posted by: yun    in Uncategorized

YY has long, straight hair, with super fine strands. Tangles are a big issue for her. Sometimes, when I comb her hair, she would cry out with pain. Today, since I have some free time, I thought I’d get online and check out what others have to say on the topic. Here are a list of suggestions to stop hair from tangling:

1. Conditioner will help immensely. It’s like giving your hair a Teflon coating. If you’re looking for cheap stuff, Vo5 and Suave are both a buck a bottle, available at drugstores, and do the trick quite well.

2. After applying the conditioner, leave it in while doing other shower activities. Rinse out at the end of your shower.

3. Try washing your hair less frequently. To some degree conditioner is simply re-adding oil to your hair that would be there naturally if modern humans didn’t bathe so much, like our primitive forebears.

4. When you wash your hair, only use the shampoo on your scalp and the roots of the hair. The rest of your hair will get clean just from rinsing the shampoo out.

5. Try combing your hair with a wide-tooth detangling comb or make passes with a natural bristle brush every chance you get.

6. For particularly stubborn knots, don’t comb them out.  Tease them apart with your fingers, so as to avoid kinking or roughening the hair further.

7. Don’t ever go to bed with wet hair. You are just asking for waking up a slab of felt on top of your head.

Bowel Movements

   Posted by: yun    in Uncategorized

For some reason, MM is frequently constipated, so her having a bowel movement has always been a big event for the family. Tonight, when she finally passed stools after straining at it and crying for some time, everyone was relieved. YY said, “Let’s go tell daddy that MM has pooped.”

This time, MM didn’t soil her pull-up. She came to me just before she was about to go.

The pain she has with her bowel movements bothers me a great deal. So far, all I have done is to make sure that she takes in more veggies and fruits. Perhaps I should have done more, such as taking her to the doctor’s office for a check-up.
